Hey!

I don't know why I don't watch Cougar Town more. I never seem to be available Wednesday nights, and not because of my social calendar. Just because...hmm, awkward.

However in the spirit of last week's episode, I watched the new Cougar Town tonight. Except, no. I didn't do that either. But I did embrace last week's idea of the 2:00 siesta, except at 12:30. I know, man. I'm slipping.

Ever since I got back from a week long vacation to discover that my basil is actually flourishing without me, I've decided that I need to relax. I wish this form of relaxation would free me from all responsibilities like the cast of Cougar Town, but alas I'm not much of a drinker.

I finished I Shall Wear Midnight early this morning (hence the need for the siesta) and am still thinking about it. How wonderful to be so young and so sure what you're supposed to do. But how difficult to standby that decision when doing so may mean losing the other iterations of who else you could be.

I'm not that old. I still have time, I suppose, to find these other people. Other me's. Yet it seems that every day that passes where I'm still the same me I begin to doubt even the existence of other, better me's.

This is in no way a hint of synopsis for I Shall Wear Midnight. Just the thoughts that came with the book.

For more indulgent introspection (set to music!), a good Bill Lawrence standby:

Girls kick what?

I don't admit to being completely in the loop of current trends. Sometimes I only get as far as knowing where to steer clear. As how my life goes, I've been running into a theme this past couple of months.

This has brought me onto the current bandwagon of The Hunger Games. No, I don't know what fans of The Hunger Games call themselves, but surely it's in tow with Grobanites and Twi-hards, right? (I kid, I kid)

No turning back

I sometimes wonder if I've become so media saturated that I can't appreciate works of the past. I grew up obsessed with AMC. Audrey Hepburn, Natalie Wood, William Holden.

Help!

I'm feeling a little hobby overload or task overload. Whatever you'd like to call it. I blame it on a certain awesome friend of mine.

After not seeing her for a few months, she answers the usual "What have you been up to?" question with a list that includes trapeze classes, retreats, and new adventures.

My reply was "Um...you know, same old, same old".

Whether to weed...

Last year my neighbors told me about Bell Organic Gardens.

Basically, you purchase a "product share" in the spring, they use the money to actually buy seeds and equipment, and come June you pick up your weekly "share" of organic produce until October (18 weeks). The shares are offered for two or four people, in six different locations (Draper being sold out). They also offer other items besides produce. Everything is local.

So why didn't I participate this year?

Well, I went to a Relief Society Gardening Night and convinced myself I could grow basil. The first week, sprouts actually started to grow.

Gaining momentum

Instead of appreciating my forefathers and all that, I celebrated my Independence Day by purging my DVD's down to three shelves. The strict criteria required to reduce 50% of my DVD collection was two fold. First: Had I watched this movie within the last year? Second: If I hadn't met the first question, would I watch this movie in the next six months?

The internal bartering that occurred meant that these past three days I have watched a bunch of random movies.

Usual Trappings

This morning started off so well. I got out of the house, visited family and had See's Candies. I planned to go home, sit at the computer and work on the screenplay. Instead this happened:

I gave her my heart...

My cure for personal happiness meanders around strawberry skydives and Jim Dale. Because of this it surprises me when my mood slips so far foul even a cute boy with dinner ready couldn't cheer me up when I got home yesterday. No, I needed a little something extra. I needed an escape.

Oh, M. Ward. You're so Dan Bejar.

True, I don't actually know Dan Bejar. But the framed poster I have of him on my wall brings about a closeness between himself and me. Plus I saw him after a show a couple years ago and though there was zaniness all around, he was the one chill guy with sunglasses inside a bar completely oblivious to everyone else. He's like the James Dean of our time, man!

What was I saying again? Oh, right. She & Him! New music video from Pitchfork:TV! Totally indulgent, but I'm speaking from the same demographic so inclusion breeds apathy! ! just for the sake of it. Hmmm...I'm in a weird mood.

Hannah?! Her name is Hannah?

Sorry, weak Felicity reference for no one else but me.

I haven't posted anything in a bit and the only thing I could think of posting was tonight's episode of Chuck.

Blue Valentine review

Blue Valentine is not a movie to take your girlfriend. Unless her favorite book is 1984 and she slows down to watch car wrecks, you’re better off with 500 Days of Summer. That is if you want to watch a film about disintegrating relationships, choose the one where Minka Kelly is happily waiting for you at the end. Blue Valentine is no Minka-Kelly-happily-waiting-for-you-at-the-end.

A Cautious Resolve

This new year I have made the usual resolutions I never seem to accomplish completely. As I sit here with Patty Griffin's "Coming Home to Me" playing in the background, I feel good. I may never get passed the first draft of my novel. I may stay in the same funk I've waded in and out of last year. But maybe not. Maybe instead of the 39 books I read in 2009, I'll read 50. Maybe I'll be able to pay off my car and save for New Zealand in 2011. Maybe I'll be braver. Kinder. More hopeful.

It's too soon to say whether this month is going towards or away from these goals. In any case, I'm going to try.

No more Hulu. I need the real thing.

Why has my decision to nix cable come back to bite me in the ass? I could be watching this right now, people!

Boyz II Men Remixes Psych

Also, I know I'm thoroughly enjoying Community and Glee, but I need more mindless television selections. My current internet provider is kind of like the buffer in NPH's Dr. Horrible blog...ooh, Castle!

ETA: Phew, I can't believe I forgot to mention Dollhouse! Jamie Bamber and Tahmoh Penikett both on my screen again? Nice!

JOURNEY!!

Per my sister's request I will post a new entry into this blog. Since she is one of two people that actually follow this blog (hi Mark!) then I will acquiesce to her request.

Lately there's been a song that has been circulating around in my head. At first I thought it was just a catchy song, but recent events leads me to think otherwise.

Case in point 1:

Yeah this was pretty funny, kind of adorable. But not as in sync as this one

Case in point 2:

Catchy, cute, but a rendition of a cover I already heard from Petra Haden

Case in point 3:

Then there was the VM reminisces of

Case in point 4:

Why is the song haunting me? I ask you! I would have included the Sopranos finale but I didn't really follow that show. Sorry Amb!

Ringing in the new year...whaddya mean it's almost March?

I started this blog in 2007 with 7 posts. 2008: 21 posts. If I had planned it better, I would have posted less in '08, making this entry the first in the nine-part series of 2009. Oh well, hindsight, right?

I am now a married woman. As I'm typing this a gentle wafting of potatoes and pot roast pervades the room. A frilly apron is tied around my waist. And I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my husband so that I can hang up his coat and hat whilst vacuuming and arranging flowers. No, wait. That was the TV.

I will still be eating pot roast though, darn it. Nothing terribly exciting is going on, but I did watch a nice little clip yesterday that reminded me of my childhood.

Sweep the leg, Daniel san!

There was no Huey Lewis and the News last night, but some excellent moments, Schwartz's response from my last post's question on why Chuck and Sarah could never be, a Karate Kid reference and an episode close with Bon Iver's "Skinny Love". What's not to love?

October 6, 2008

Why do you think she's known as the black widow?

The answer to that and many more increasingly awesome questions and one-liners lies in last night's episode of Chuck. Besides gushing about the well-placed Huey Lewis and the News, the two OC-esque references (an appearance by Melinda Clarke and the 80s music video hot girl crawling towards the camera like one Taylor Townsend in Season Four) and Lester's Wheel of MisFortune, we also get to see the nice Chuck/Sarah progression. Which, let's face it. Their obstacles are no Buffy/Angel. Get 'em together, Schwartz!

My TV complacency is high. Thank goodness I have this and Pushing Daisies.

Time After Time

Hello, September. My has the time flown. Or something. I've decided I am entirely too unhappy with my current look. Which, incidentially, is the same look I've had for quite awhile now. I think, in the words of Sam Cooke, 'a change is gonna come' or Dylan, 'things have changed' or She & Him, 'change is hard'. Oh, wait. Scratch that last one.

I've had Zooey Deschanel on the brain as of late. She's pretty much the closest to how I would like to model my new look after, 'specially since June Carter Cash up and deserted me. Who knows if it will actually happen. But here's to hopin'.

Artist on Artist: Brian Wilson & Zooey Deschanel

Fake Bollywood is just too cool

One of these days, I will live to see a man twirling his painted on mustache...I hope it's soon.
